  • What are the school’s regular school hours?

    On regular school days, school begins at 7:45 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m. Please see the Student Handbook for more detailed information about our daily schedules and our bell schedule.

  • What are the requirements to graduate from Gila Ridge High School?

    In order to earn a Yuma Union High School District diploma, all regular education students must meet our graduation requirements in order to participate in commencement exercises. These include credit requirements and competency test requirements adopted by the State Board of Education. We designate all students with a grade point averages of three point five (3.5) or higher shall as students graduating with honors. See the Student Handbook for an outline or our graduation requirements for regular education students.

    Credit Requirements

    A minimum of 22 units of credit are required for graduation. Listed below are the requirements that a student must complete before he/she may receive a Yuma Union High School District diploma:

    • English:  four (4) credits
    • Mathematics: four (4) credits
    • Science:  three (3) credits.  Students may substitute one (1) course in agriculture or technology to count toward the high school graduation science requirement as per R7-2-302(4).
    • Social Studies:  three (3) credits
    • One (1) credit for World History/Geography
    • One (1) credit for United States History
    • One half (1/2) credit for United States Government
    • One half (1/2) credit for Economics
    • Physical Education:  one (1) credit
    • Fine Arts or CTE (Career/Technical Education):  one (1) credit
    • Elective Credits:  Six (6) credits

  • What are the entrance requirements for Arizona Universities?

    Academic Requirements:

    English Four Credits
    Mathematics Four Credits (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Math Analysis, Calculus, etc.)
    Social Studies
    Two Credits (American History and one other Social Science course)
    Fine Arts
    One Credit (can be a combination of any two semesters of fine arts courses)
    Laboratory Science
    Three Credits (You must select courses from Biology, Earth Science, Physics, or Chemistry)

  • Admission Requirements

    Students must have at least one of the following to be admitted without conditions:

    Unweighted 3.0 GPA
    Class rank in the top 25% of their class
    Minimum ACT composite score of 22
    Minimum SAT I combined score of 1040
    We recommend that students take both the ACT and the SAT during the spring semester of their junior year and again in the fall of their senior year, if necessary. For information on admission to community colleges or out-of-state schools, please see our Student Handbook.

  • May students leave campus for lunch?

    No. All Yuma Union High School District campuses are closed campuses. Any student leaving campus during the school day must check out through the Attendance Office. You must have permission from your parent/guardian in order to leave. Work-study situations, school activities, or other previously approved departures from campus are exceptions.

  • What will happen if a student is late to school?

    If a student is not inside the classroom, or present at the designated class area, when the bell rings, he/she is tardy, regardless of the cause. We employ various techniques such as tardy sweeps, detentions, and suspensions to minimize the number of students tardy to class. We give students ample time in the bell schedules to allow them to pass to their next classroom site from any point on campus within the designated passing period.

  • What should I do if my child must be absent from school?

    Parents should notify the school regarding your child’s absence. Please call the office. Once a student exceeds five absences, he/she must make up the absence. Your phone call is not enough to absolve the student from this responsibility. We hold students accountable for all absences. Please see our Student Handbook for more information on Attendance Regulations and Procedures.

  • What are the requirements for participating in an extracurricular activity?

    We determine eligibility by six week, twelve week, and semester grades. Students that we have determined to be academically ineligible at the end of a six-week, twelve week, or semester grading period shall remain ineligible until he/she meets the requirements of eligibility. The minimum ineligibility period is one full calendar week (Monday through Sunday unless the new grading period begins on another day). We will check ineligible students weekly for academic progress. If they are passing all or their classes at the time of this check, they shall become eligible the following Monday. We strongly encourage all students who are ineligible to attend academic support programs.

  • Does GRHS have a dress code?

    We encourage our students to take pride in their attire as it relates to the school setting.  Students should dress in a manner that, in addition to the 10 Rules, takes into consideration the educational environment, safety, health, and welfare of themselves and others.   • My son/daughter will be driving to school. What are the rules for parking?

    All student must register their vehicles with the Security Office and display an approved decal. To get this decal, students must present a valid driver’s license, current registration, and proof of insurance for the car they wish to registered. We ask that parents review the Vehicle Driving and Parking Policies with their student.

  • Does Gila Ridge provide bus transportation?

    We believe that bus transportation is a privilege that we provide for students who live more than 2 miles from school. Students must present the Gila Ridge High School I.D. to board the bus and must comply with all of the bus driver’s regulations. A student that fails to comply may lose his/her bus privileges.  

    • Students will obey the instructions of the bus driver at all times.
    • Students are to remain seated while the bus is in motion.
    • Students will not use profane or offensive language.
    • No use of tobacco products on the bus.
    • Students will not create loud noises, disruptions or disturb others.
    • Students will not throw or shoot any object inside of or at the bus, or at other passengers.
    • Students will conduct themselves in an orderly manner at all times.
    • Students will not bring any unauthorized item on the bus (skateboards, pets, food, beverages other than water, etc.).
    • Students will not hang any part of their body outside of the window.
