Kofa sophomore to have artwork displayed in U.S. Capitol
Kofa High School sophomore Marilyn Garcia Chavez was named the winner of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition for Arizona’s Third Congressional District.
Garcia Chavez’s piece, entitled “Déjà Vu,” will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year. She said the piece is about childhood and wanting to convey the innocence of children and their ability to live freely, explore the world, and embrace curiosity.
As the winner of the Congressional Art Competition, Garcia Chavez will receive a free trip to Washington, D.C. where she will be honored at a Congressional reception and view her artwork on display in the U.S. Capitol.
