KHS partners with AWC-Somerton for SEI presentation
The Kofa High School Structured English Immersion (SEI) program partnered with Arizona Western College - Somerton to host a presentation for all students enrolled in the SEI Program in the Kofa Auditorium on Feb. 5, 2020.
AWC representative and Kofa High School alumni, Maria Guzman, and AWC Student Ambassadors spoke with the students about the many opportunities available to in postsecondary education and other areas beyond high school.
Students were introduced to the programs and degrees available at AWC, and Guzman shared her personal journey as an English Language Learner and encouraged students to create their own journey and take ownership of their future.
“As a former ELL student, Kofa graduate, and first-generation college graduate, Maria Guzman, was able to offer first-hand inspiration to our students currently enrolled in the SEI program,” Kofa teacher Kaisa Tabor said. “Her journey is one they can relate to because her roots are similar to those of our current students. She also committed to being the ‘Enrollment Godmother’ to any Kofa SEI student as they pursue a college degree.”
