Vista Alternative High School holds first blood drive
Vista Alternative High School and United Blood Services teamed up to have the first blood drive in Vista’s new facility on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018.
Students and community members were invited to give blood for the Yuma Community and also get an insider view of the new school building located at 3150 S. Avenue A. The school’s Student Council coordinated with representatives from United Blood Services to set and schedule appointments for the drive.
A number of Vista Alternative students participated in the drive for the community. Student Council Adviser Diego Moya was happy to see the council of students come together for a great cause.
“This is a great example for the students to see a project go from an idea on paper to the final stage of action,” Moya said.
Moya has been having the students choreograph the project from set up, getting appointments taken and ready, to even the closing of the drive for the day.
Student Council member Bryana Joya said, “There were a fewe struggles at first, but it has really turned around. We had a lot of walk-ins, which we didn’t expect. We also had a lot of the donors be proud of the fact that their donation could possibly save lives.”
