YHS Student Council volunteers 99 hours to Habitat for Humanity
Yuma High School Student Council students participated in a state-wide “Serve-a-thon,” organized by the Arizona Association of Student Councils (AASC), in which they assisted for the day at Habitat for Humanity.
“Community service is something we love to participate in and this was something all of our students were passionate and excited to participate in,” Yuma High Student Body President David Amavisca said. “Due to previous involvement, our students chose to volunteer at our local Habitat for Humanity as we had a large class of students ready to work and they always need as much help as possible to organize the large amount of recyclables they obtain.”
Nearly 40 students volunteered 99 man hours in a single day, which, according to AASC Yuma High’s hours totaled one of the largest numbers in the state.
“We had a great time working with the super friendly staff and organized through massive amounts of materials,” Amavisca added. “The class celebrated with pizza and shared lunch with the staff, learned more about the organization, and had a great time together.”
Habitat for Humanity awarded Yuma’s Student Council with certificates thanking the group for their service.
