Kofa Marine Corps JROTC takes first in Color Guard competition

The Kofa High School Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps traveled to Ramona High School in Riverside, California on Saturday, January 26, 2019 to compete in the Battle of the Color Guards, coming away with first place in two separate categories.

Competing among 15 other JROTC color guards, Kofa’s Advanced Color Guard team won first in both inspection and drill routine. The team consists of Cadet Gunnery Sergeant Uriel Diarte, Cadet 2nd Lt Kaleb Waldron, Cadet Staff Sergeant Richard Orozco, and Cadet Lance Corporal Kevin Castro. KHS Color Guard and Sgt. Maj Laarman

Kofa’s color guard has long been utilized as part of Yuma Union High School District events. They present the colors during the district’s annual kick of event in July as well as groundbreaking ceremonies, assemblies, graduation, and various other gatherings. They will take part in the district’s professional development day on Feb. 15 when YUHSD hosts its certificated staff at Gila Ridge High School.
