According to the website, the U.S. Academic Decathlon is a 10-event scholastic competition for teams of high school students. Each high school enters a team of nine students: three Honor students (3.750 - 4.00 GPA), three Scholastic students (3.00 - 3.749 GPA), and three Varsity students (0.00 - 2.999 GPA).
More than 60 volunteers from the community and YUHSD helped with judging, proctoring, and scoring over the two-day event.
Cibola is also hosting the Region 3 Academic Decathlon competition on Jan. 31 to Feb. 1, 2020, which consists of 16 teams from the Tucson and Yuma regions. More than 90 volunteers are needed for the Friday night portion of the competition and 30 for Saturday in a variety of categories. A volunteer sign-up form will be released in the near future. The Arizona Academic Decathlon Association will also offer up to 6 hours of recertification for teachers who volunteer for any of the events that weekend.
