YUHSD recognized in Excellence in Education Awards
Three individuals affiliated with Yuma Union High School District were recognized with S. June Pallack Excellence in Education awards for the 2020-21 school year.
Cibola High School Instructional Coach David Robinson and Counselor Teresa Davis were honored nominees for Professional Services Person of the Year, while Tricia Kinnell, at Kofa High School, was named Volunteer of the Year.
The S. June Pallack Excellence in Education Awards, presented by the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce, came about through the cooperation and collaboration of the volunteers of the Education Awards Committee of the Chamber. According to their website, this award program was designed to honor the thousands of people who are not teachers, but are as dedicated, and as worthy of recognition as those hardworking teachers. These people are aides, volunteers, staffers, office personnel, and administrators.
In 2016, the Pallack family created the award in memory of their mother and grandmother, a long-time Yuma educator. Nominations are submitted by the community at large, including parents, students, and co-workers. The nomination deadline typically closes in April each year with winners being announced in May.
