Gila Ridge football sweeps Player & Coach of Year Region honors

John Ellegood The Gila Ridge High School varsity football team received numerous Arizona Interscholastic Association 4A Southwest Region accolades, as voted on by coaches in the region.

Highlighting the list of awards are four individuals who were voted as Players and Coach of the Year.

First-year head coach John Ellegood was selected as the Coach of the Year for the region. He guided the Hawks to their best season in school history, and advanced in the conference semifinals while amassing an 11-2 overall record.

Senior Devin Graham was voted as the overall Player of the Year for the region, while running back Renan Duarte was the Offensive Player of the Year and D’Angelo Jackson was the Defensive Player of the Year.

Additionally, the Hawks had eight players selected to First Team All-Region for nine positions. Sophomore wide receiver and defensive back standout Jonathan Noriega was voted First Team on both offense and defense. The First-Team selections are as followed;
