Maxine Renaud signs letter of intent to Arizona Western soccer

Gila Ridge High School’s Maxine Renaud signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Arizona Western College next fall.

“Choosing AWC was a very easy decision for me,” Renaud said. “My mother works there, it is close to home and I love the familiarity with the campus. I have never played club soccer, which is really unique, so to my teammates and coaches here at Gila Ridge I owe a huge amount of gratitude. Without their guidance and support I would have never been in this position to continue playing at the collegiate level.”

Renaud has played three years of varsity soccer here at Gila Ridge as well as four years of varsity Track & Field while also being a member of the school’s marching band.

“Maxine has always been one of the hardest workers out on the track and she is a tremendous leader day in and day out,” said Briar Ploude the Hawks Track & Field coach. “She is by far one of the friendliest people on the team and the amount of time she dedicates to all of her sports, school work and the band sets her apart.”

Head soccer coach Jessica Vanderbaan echoed Ploude’s sentiments. “LeiLei (Maxine) has grown so much as a player over the course of her high school career, from being a quiet freshman to a senior leader and captain,” she said. “Her team-first mentality and her work ethic is any coach’s dream. I am positive she will continue to grow as a player and a person while at AWC and I am excited to see what she can do at the next level.”

Arizona Western College women’s soccer is a member of the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference and they are entering their seventh season. They went 21-3 in 2018 and advanced to the National Tournament for the first time in school history. Other notable Gila Ridge alumnae on this year’s team include Yazmin Gonzales and Valeria Carrera.
