Alyssa Darby signs Letter of Intent to Arizona Western softball
Gila Ridge High School’s Alyssa Darby signed a letter of intent to play softball at Arizona Western College next season.
“AWC gave me the best opportunity to keep playing and go to college,” Darby said. “This has always been a goal of mine and I am so proud that I have been able to accomplish it. My teammates and coaches here at Gila Ridge have always pushed me to be the best player and the best person I could be. I will always remember my time here, but it’s not over yet. I am looking forward to my senior season and focusing on softball.”
Darby started her fourth season of varsity softball at Gila Ridge on Monday. Her career batting average of .524 comes with 77 hits and 33 runs batted in, while only striking out 6 times in 165 plate appearances.
Head softball coach Courtney Reed has nothing but high praise for her senior shortstop. “Alyssa has been a great player for us these past three years and she is a valuable piece of our team on both sides of the ball,” Reed said. “Alyssa has all the tools to be successful at the next level and I am sure she will fit right in with AWC next spring.”
Arizona Western College women’s softball team is a member of the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. Other notable Gila Ridge alumnus on this year’s team include Aylina Campa and Yassiel Lazo.
Darby is the fourth Gila Ridge High School senior to sign a letter of intent to play collegiate athletics next year. She signed with AWC in January as part of a group signing ceremony at the college.
